As a component of local development, foreign direct investment is becoming ever more relevant as Costa Rica increasingly incorporates itself to the world and continues to offer the advantages required to be a competitive investment destination. Likewise, local investment becomes equally important to the extent allowed by local capacity and confidence of the production sector and promoted by the government.

Support to both local and foreign investment provided by this division meets PROCOMER’s objective to generally promote foreign trade and investment. This is achieved by strengthening Costa Rica’s export sector through local and foreign investment on export linkages, competitiveness, and diversification, in order to allow and foster sustained growth of both export quantities and value added.

Action taken here is aimed at furthering local development, supporting domestic investment, and promoting the country as a destination for foreign direct investment.

PROCOMER’s Foreign and Local Investment Division aims at:

•   Promoting the country as a destination for foreign direct investment, in cooperation with all relevant public and private agencies.
•   Assisting in facilitating investment in the country through coordination and simplification of processes with relevant public and private agencies
•   Coordinating public investment issues with government agencies
•   Identifying strategic sectors for investment in the country
•   Promoting rural development through local as well as foreign direct investment
•   Using local investment as a development tool.
