Carmel, the international fresh produce brand that stands for quality, reliability and advanced logistics, is once again proving its adaptability to market demands. 21st century concerns revolve around food safety and environmental protection. To answer these needs, Carmel is entering its sixth decade by forging new frontiers. It is taking the principles of sustainable agriculture and combining them with state-of-the-art agro-technologies in order to guarantee food safety, produce quality, on-time delivery and farmer welfare.

Now that Israeli export has been privatized, the field has become crowded, with close to one-hundred companies alone dealing in agricultural export. Nonetheless, the Carmel brand has captured 75% of the market share, maintaining its leadership position. Carmel understands that in order to lead one must pioneer. Consequently, Carmel has once again broken new ground in Israel by adapting and applying innovative procedures for growing, packing and shipping fresh produce around the globe.

Carmel exports 250,000 tons of fresh produce and flowers per year and has an annual turnover of € 500 million. Carmel reaches various world markets through a state-of-the-art logistic infrastructure and communications system, as well as through aggressive marketing methods. 85% percent of its exports go to Western Europe, 2% to Eastern Europe, 10% to the Americas, 3% to the Far East and 1% to other markets.

Carmel has also undergone a logistics revolution, launching two new, refrigeration and container ships: Carmel Ecofresh and Carmel BioTop. These technologically advanced vessels transport our produce to ports along the Mediterranean, giving us a cutting-edge in freshness.

Naturally, Carmel growers form the heart of our operation and we are committed to their professional and economical well-being. Consequently, we have made a significant investment in developing and implementing our own EcoFresh system - a standard that incorporates EurepGAP requirements with the latest developments in Information Technology (IT). EcoFresh is a highly advanced standard. All our growers strive to achieve it and we are happy to report that most already have. In so doing, they automatically meet EurepGAP certification as well as the demands of other stringent standards.
